Underworld Awakening

This one may not technically be a comic book movie but as far as kick ass fantasy movies go it ticks all the boxes so far for being the first worth while movie to be seen in 3D.

The previous Underworld movies were arguable the best vampire movies of the last decade or so, ok minus the third one which doesn’t count. They had a super sexy female lead in the form of Kate Beckinsale in that black leather number kicking the poop out of werewolves, vampires and other mutants in between.

The series began with vampires and werewolves battling out of human sight for hundreds of year. In the second movie we saw hybrids and mutants joining the fight against a bigger vampire. The third movie was forgettable but this fourth may cement the franchise as one of the best vampire movie franchises of the last 100 years.

The fourth movie continues the story and evolves it to keep everyones interested. Vampires and werewolves are now well known and hunted by humans. Selene has been kept asleep for 15 or so years and wakes in a whole new world of dangers.

At one point this movie was very nearly a Blade Crossover which has been on the card since the first Underworld movie. Thanks to licensing and contracts we might not be able to see that movie but here’s hoping they do it before Kate Beckinsale stops looking so amazing in leather.

The movie will be on general release January 20th 2012.
