In a very welcome but highly unexpected casting update we have news that Martin Sheen will return to play Uncle Ben in the Spiderman sequel along side Emma Stone who will be playing Gwen Stacy in all three movies if all goes well.
The news comes from Martin Sheen himself.
They’ve called me back!, I don’t know what the part is gonna be, but I’m going to be Uncle Ben once again in Spider-Man next year. We shoot it in February.
Martin Sheen played a huge part in the success of the Amazing Spider-man movie being a Hollywood legend.
The Amazing Spider-man was great but with the success of the Sam Raimi movies they had a lot to live up to. Bringing Sheen in and giving it a more emotional side with his death and really gave it the edge and ability to get signed for the sequels.
A lot of Spider-man fans may be thinking about how cool it would be for them to explore the alternate dimensions in the Spider-man universe where Uncle Ben was still alive and they had half a dozen Spidermen but it’s probably just going to be in the form of flash backs and helping to re-introduce Peter Parkers real parents.
It also gives Marc Web one last chance to include the most famous line in comic history “With great power comes great responsibility”.
