Superman 2 release date
With the first Superman movie still in the cinema and doing pretty well on digital too we’ve just had confirmation of the sequel and it’s official title and release date.
The first movie introduced us to a whole new Superman played by David Corenswet who along with the rest of the cast did an amazing job. It was a fresh take on the hero from Krypton and a whole roster of characters in Metropolis.
In a post on Instagram from Director James Gunn himself we have what look like the working title for the movie which is set as Man of Tomorrow along with a solid release date of July 9th 2027.
Two years between the first and second movie is a very good turnaround as sometimes these sequels can take a lot longer and fall into movie production limbo.
We’re probably going to see David Corenswet show up as Superman in the upcoming Supergirl movie and possibly in the Peacemaker TV show too.
Having two years between movies may seem like a long time but unless the script is fully finished before the first movie hits it’s not a lot of time to get things right.
If good trilogy isn’t planned out well at the start you can end up with something like the Iron Man movies, where the first was amazing and the rushed sequels didn’t live up to the quality of the first.
With James Gunns post we saw a picture of Superman standing next to Lex Luthor in his War suit. This could mean a lot of things as Luthor has has a few uses for the suit over the years.
It could be that Lex wants to go head to head with Superman but this sounds like it could be a fairly short lived plan with a lack of Kryptonite on the planet at the moment.
Another option which I hope they do at some point would be a bit of a redemption story with Lex where he creates the suit to help Superman out, although I think it’s a bit soon in their relationship for this outcome, we need a few more evil Lex movies before the redemption story would mean much.
At this point it’s hard to tell what James Gunn has planned for the movie but I’m sure it’s going to be amazing based on how cool the first one was.
