It’s long overdue that we got a new Supergirl movie, she’s easily one of the most underused characters in the DC universe and we’re getting so close to seeing the new movie starring Milly Alcock.
The release is set for 26th June 2026 which for me couldn’t come soon enough.
From watching the trailer it almost looks like a James Gunn movie but it’s actually been directed by Craig Gillespie who is probably most well known for I, Tonya and Cruella. I think the style says a lot about Gunns choice of directors for the DC movies. I think it’s so important that the movies share a similar style to bring together that sense of a unified universe.
This is a very different take on Supergirl than the previous ones, she’s probably closest to Laura Vandervoort’s take on Supergirl from Smallville. I feel like Helen Slater and Melissa Benoist were both epic but also has personalities too similar to Superman. I think I like the edgy more reckless take on Supergirl which we’re probably going to see in this movie.
The teaser trailer feels pretty short at 2 minutes long but we get to see a lot of content. The destruction of Krypton is something I’m excited to see as it’s going to give away a lot of back story on Supergirl and tell us what happened to Kandor in this universe. At this point we know Brainiac will be the main villain in Man of Tomorrow which will be one of the next DC movies. I’m hoping we will see Brainiac in this movie removing Kandor and putting it in a bottle before the destruction of Krypton.
I loved Kandor the bottled city in the original comics and I don’t know why it’s not been used more outside the comics.
