Gotham casts Maggie Geha as new Poison Ivy

The first season of Gotham touched a lot of new ground, we’ve seen the early days of a superhero before through Smallville but Gotham focuses on the whole of the city. Season one introduced us to Gordon and a few key characters but season two stepped it up and introduced some very ambitious villains including Mr freeze and Firefly.

In season 3 we will see a few new characters along with the development of a few we already know. One of those will be Poison Ivy. In the comics her special powers revolved around her seductive influence and control over men through various plant toxins. To help develop this story faster the writers are replacing Clare Foley who played Ivy in the first two seasons with model / actress Maggie Geha.

For the switch a lot of fans of the show speculated that season 3 will take place a few years in the but from the character description we know it’s more of a transformation.

Following an encounter with a monster from Indian Hill, Ivy Pepper finds herself reborn, and one step closer to the DC villain she is destined to become: Poison Ivy. Now a 19-year-old woman who’s harnessed the full power of her charms, she sets her sights on Bruce Wayne.

Overall it’s a shame to lose series regular Clare Foley but it’s going to give us a good look at Poison Ivy’s new origin and they have made an excellent choice of actress with casting Maggie Geha for the new role.

It may sounds like a strange route to follow with the character especially since they setup the whole growing up together but it might be that they had to accelerate her development in the story to write her out of the series leaving the door open for a Poison Ivy in the movies.  There are a few rumours around a new movie in production which focuses on just the female heroes and  villains which is one reason many believe Black Canary was removed from Arrow or it could be the case that Ivy has been written into the Suicide Squad sequel.

Gotham season 3 premiers September 19th.
