First trailer for Shazam looks amazing

This could be a real turning point for DC movies. They have been criticised for being a bit too serious and this one seems to bring in that comic relief they really need at the moment.

Trailer was released at the 2018 SDCC convention and looks to have stolen the show. It comes the same week that Disney fired James Gunn one of their most talented film makers over 10 year old Tweets. If Warner Bros picked him up to take over on some of their DC movies he could bring over some of that Marvel insider knowhow.

The trailer also confirms that Shazam is firmly set in the current DC movie universe so it makes sense that Shazam will be joining in the Justice League movies at one point or another. I wouldn’t be surprised if they have even green lit a sequel to this one.

The release date for Shazam is set for April 2019 which is a refreshing change as the film looks mostly finished with 9 months or so to go before release. With previous DC movies they have been doing extensive reshoots only a month or so before release.

The synopsis for Shazam follows:

We all have a superhero inside us, it just takes a bit of magic to bring it out. In Billy Batson’s (Angel) case, by shouting out one word—SHAZAM!—this streetwise 14-year-old foster kid can turn into the adult Super Hero Shazam (Levi), courtesy of an ancient wizard. Still a kid at heart—inside a ripped, godlike body—Shazam revels in this adult version of himself by doing what any teen would do with superpowers: have fun with them! Can he fly? Does he have X-ray vision? Can he shoot lightning out of his hands? Can he skip his social studies test? Shazam sets out to test the limits of his abilities with the joyful recklessness of a child. But he’ll need to master these powers quickly in order to fight the deadly forces of evil controlled by Dr. Thaddeus Sivana (Strong).
