4 Questions About Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2

We don’t have too much longer to wait before the franchise that many view as Marvel’s most enjoyable is back on the big screen. Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 is slated for an early May release, which means that it will be here before we know it. It’s a virtual guarantee that this movie will be a blast. But here are four more specific things we’re wondering about what the film will be all about and what it will do for the Guardians franchise as its own unique wing of the Marvel empire.

1. What’s On Awesome Mix Vol. 2?

Watch the only trailer for the film so far and you’ll hear Blue Swede’s “Hooked On A Feeling,” which was part of the “Awesome Mix Vol. 1″ mixtape that became so wildly popular after the first movie. It’s hard to recall a modern movie more thoroughly defined or represented by its soundtrack than The Guardians Of The Galaxy. So, needless to say, the first question on a lot of our minds is what’s on the second volume of Star-Lord’s mix? At San Diego Comic-Con, director James Gunn was thought to reveal two tracks, at least—”Come A Little Bit Closer” by Jay And The Americans, and “The Chain” by Fleetwood Mac—but these aren’t confirmed, and even if they are, there are many more tracks to come.

2. Will Groot Grow Up?

The trailer gives us only one glimpse of Groot, and he’s still in the form of Baby Groot—the phoenix-like sprout that emerged from Groot’s near-death at the end of the first movie. Baby Groot is actually a fan favorite. In fact, there’s even a wide selection of Baby Groot toys and collectibles just for the droves of fans who adored his brief appearance. But it would also be nice to see big Groot back in action. Our best clue that this will happen is that Vin Diesel, who voices Groot, is listed in the cast once again.

3. Will We See New Games?

The first movie popularized a number of characters who’ve since made their respective ways into many Marvel games online and for mobile devices. But will a second go-around yield even more gaming content for fans to enjoy? One area to watch for this would be online casinos, which have frequently supported popular franchises and characters. Checking out a hub of information about features and games from prominent sites in this genre, you’ll find mentions of The Avengers as well as other popular characters like Lara Croft the The Mummy. etc.). Inclusion in this club would make for some nice brand expansion for the Guardians. If we really want to get greedy we could also hope that the early-2017 release positions these characters well for a role in one of Marvel’s upcoming console games (which, it’s been promised, will be “epic”).

4. Will We Get A Meaningful Avengers Tie-In?

This last question probably matters most. The expectation is that the Guardians characters will be present for the upcoming Infinity War films, in which the Avengers will work alongside the bulk of characters we’ve seen in the MCU thus far. But we don’t know how or when the Guardians will be brought into contact with the greater MCU. In fact, we know relatively little about this movie, other than that it will involve Star-Lord’s search for his father (who will be played by Kurt Russell). It seems likely that in one way or another we’ll start to see the Guardians saga mesh with the Avengers storylines that have grown over the last eight years.
